Happy Holiday’s everyone! I took this photo on the way to work this morning down by Lutsen Resort.   It was very windy and cold this morning.  When I got up there were winds of 40mph but by the time I left for work they had died down so the Lake didn’t have many waves.

The book I was talking about yesterday is “So terrible a Storm, A tale of Fury on Lake Superior by Curt Brown.   The storm was on November 27-29, 1905.  Twenty 29 ships were lost during that storm.  It had winds over 60 miles per hour at times.  I haven’t finished the book yet but so far it has been very interesting the stories of the survivors of two ships, the Maderia and the Mataafa.    The Maderia crashed by the rocks of Split Rock Lighthouse and is still in the water there .  Split Rock was built in response to this storm.  My Grandfather was a lighthouse keeper there when my mother was a little girl.  We can still find a photo of him at the gallery.

Stopped by Tofte Park on my way to work this morning.  It was raining pretty hard so took the photo from my car.  The rain was turning to snow and slush further down Hwy 61 and there were reports of cars int he ditch and slow going on the Hwy.

Tofte Park is a beautiful park to take a walk in or have a picnic.  It has several tables and grills.  There is one area in particular that overlooks the lake pretty close to this photo.

It’s a great place to watch the waves during storms on the lake.  I am reading a book now about the great storm on Lake Superior in November of 1905.  I’ll post some interesting things I’ve been reading soon.

Tofte Park

Grey warm day today on the shore.  The roads were clear even tho there is a freezing rain advisory until tomorrow morning sometime.   The beauty of the day is the barren trees against a grey background.  You can see all of the branches so clearly and every once in a while a single leaf still clinging to a lone branch.   The Lutsen Mountains Ski Area  has been making snow and will be open everyday starting on December 16th.
